Look at what’s on!     Christmas Services 2017 in Uttoxeter

Christingle Services – always child-friendly, always fun, lively services. Sometimes it’s a DIY Christingle to make during the service, sometimes they’ve been put together earlier. Often the collection is given to The Children’s Society.

3rd December – Tean’s Christingle Service at 11am, Checkley’s at 4pm

10th December – Kingstone’s Christingle service at 4pm

17th December – Bramshall Christingle Service at 4pm following the youngsters get together to make the Christingles at 3pm in the parish hall.

24th December – Marchington St Peter’s Christingle and Crib Service at 2pm and Uttoxeter’s Christingle and Crib Service (with dressing up as Nativity story characters for the children) at 4.30pm

Crib Services – does what it says on the tin! In the Bible, actually. Listen to the story of Jesus’ miraculous birth, as we place each of the characters involved into the crib to set the scene for our Christmas celebrations.

24th December – Tean have a Nativity service at 2pm, Leigh have one at 3.30pm, Checkley’s Crib Service is at 4pm “All Together in Bethlehem!”, and there is a Crib Service at Marchington St Peters at 2pm, at Kingstone at 4pm and at Stramshall at 6pm.

Carol Services – carols and readings to remind us of Jesus’ birth, of the prophets who knew from God that He would be born, and of the message that lives on in each of us through the Holy Spirit. The service for those who want to be reminded of “the reason for the season”! Possibly with candles.

10th December – Tean’s Carol Service at 11am, Bramshall’s Carol Service at 4pm

17th December – Marchington Woodlands has a Carol Service at 3pm, Marchington St Peter’s Carol Service is at 6pm, Uttoxeter’s Carol Service at 6pm followed by festive refreshments, Checkley’s Carol Service is at 6.30pm, Kingstone’s Carol Service, and Stramshall’s Carol Service are at 7pm and Leigh’s Carol Service and Gratwich’s Community Carols are at 7.30pm,

24th December – Gratwich has a Christmas Evensong at 7pm.

“Light up a Life” – Uttoxeter St Mary’s on Tuesday 5th December at 6pm. St Giles Hospice Care are joining with others around the country for a service to remember family, friends and loved ones in a special way this Christmas, and this year we have one locally. Register online at www.stgileshospice.com/lightupalife for a light to be put on the Christmas Tree, and the name of your loved one to be included in the Book of Memories. Posters and leaflets are available too, for this special chance to remember and reflect at Christmas.

Christmas Communion Services – often a traditional time for families to share Holy Communion together, sometimes at the very beginning of Christmas Day itself, and known as the Midnight Service.

24th December – The Heath has a Christmas Communion at 3pm, Uttoxeter and Stramshall have a Christmas Communion Service at 11.15pm. Tean, Leigh, Marchington St Peter’s, Kingstone, Bramshall and Checkley all have a Christmas Communion Service at 11.30pm.

Christmas Day – Come and celebrate the birth of Jesus at a family-friendly service, sharing in Holy Communion as we remember all that Jesus gives to us.

Services at Bramshall, Marchington Woodlands, Tean, and Uttoxeter at 10am Holy Communion.

New Year’s Eve – A chance to reflect, pause, take a breath and prepare for the hopes ahead.

Services at Uttoxeter at 8am, 9.30am and 6pm, at Tean at 11am and at The Heath at 3pm,

What else do our parishes “do” to celebrate Jesus’ birth within the community?

Friday 24th November + Saturday 25th November – “Puss in Boots” pantomime by the St Mary’s Entertainers, 7-30pm at Wilfred House. Tickets £8 adults / £6 children from Uttoxeter Town Hall, Diane Brown, Hayley Allen or Linda Hammond.

Saturday 25th November - Upper Tean’s Christmas Market is from 10am until 3pm. and takes place in both the church hall and in Christ Church itself.

Saturday 2nd December – St Mary’s Christmas Fair in Uttoxeter Parish Church 10am-12noon.

Saturday 2nd December – Marchington Singers’ Festive Singing in Waitrose between 2pm and 4pm, collecting for Halfrida House.

Sunday 3rd December - Checkley Christmas Workshop for Children Checkley Community Centre 1:30 - 3:30 pm.

Sunday 3rd December – Soul Café at the Dove Church 7.30pm, with delicious cake, inspiring visuals, words and songs, and special guest John Pickering all around the Advent theme of “Breaking in” as God breaks into the darkness.

Saturday 9th December – Marchington Singers present A Christmas Candlelight Concert at 7.30pm in St Mary’s Church, Uttoxeter. Tickets from members, or on the door £12 / £3 (u16).

Saturday 9th December - Upper Tean’s Breakfast with Santa takes place in the church hall between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. The cost is £4.50 - this includes a visit to Santa, a present and a cooked breakfast.

Saturday 9th December – Stramshall Christmas Fair, 2.30pm onwards in the village hall.

Saturday 9th December - Checkley Church host a Christmas Concert 7:30pm with the Barbara Walton Singers.

Sunday 10th December - Christmas Post and Bazaar in Marchington Village hall 2pm to 4pm

Thursday 14th December - Uttoxeter Lions’ “Christmas Cracker” night in the town from 6pm

Friday 15th December - Checkley Village Christmas Night 6-9pm in church

Saturday 16th December – Churches Together in the Uttoxeter area – Carol singing outside the Town Hall 11am to 12 noon, more singers from all the CTiU churches welcome.

Sunday 17th December – Festive singing from The Heath Chorus at Tesco’s and Waitrose (1.30pm and 3pm ish) collecting for a local cause.

Monday 18th December to Saturday 23rd December 10am to 2pm – St Mary’s Christmas Tree Festival with trees imaginatively decorated by schools, church and community groups around the theme of “Christmas Presents”.
